Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio (born November 11, 1974) is an Academy Award-nominated American actor well known for his roles in blockbuster movies such as Titanic (1997), William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (1996), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006) and Blood Diamond (2006), and was, as a young man, famed for his global celebrity influence dubbed as 'Leomania' in the late 1990s. More recently he has worked regularly with director Martin Scorsese and has established himself as one of the top actors in Hollywood today. Biography Leonardo DiCaprio's first big role was on the television series Growing Pains, and he got critical raves for his role in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993, with Johnny Depp) but he really became a major star with his 1996 role in Romeo and Juliet. After his starring turn in 1997's Titanic (with Kate Winslet), he was an international superstar, and a favorite of the tabloids for his pin-up looks and party-boy reputation. |
